Like its grown-up counterpart, the 860v8 features a midsole made of New Balance’s “Abzorb” foam for springy cushioning. It also has a more-dense medial post to help guide over-pronators into a neutral stride, so if a coach or doctor has told your kiddo they pronate, check out this shoe.

Available in sizes 10.5K-7Y, and comes in three widths (standard, wide, extra-wide)

Comfort for Sport

Our kid tester liked how “comfy” the 860v8 was underfoot, and we chalk that up to a midsole made of the company’s aforementioned “Abzorb” foam. Testers also liked the look and feel of this shoe. “I feel like a real runner!” said one.

Extra Stable

Adults wearing the 860v8 know the dense medial post helps guide them through their stride, and while kids won’t know its there, you will. If a coach, doctor, or another reliable source has told you that your kid could benefit from a more stable running shoe, this or the Asics Kayano 25 will do the trick—the 860v8 comes in $70 less, though.

A Grippy Sole

The outsole seemed to provide good traction on pavement and concrete alike (read: less wipeouts), and the shoe seems durably built.

Super-Cool

The tongue is extra plush for serious comfort.
