Amazon Prime Day, the annual shopping extravaganza, is here for one more day. Prime members can expect big savings on everything from running shoes to Garmin watches today, not to mention plenty of walking shoes.
Most of us walk daily without thinking too much about gear—we walk in whatever clothes or shoes we wear. But if you spend lots of time on your feet, whether working, traveling or just loving a long jaunt around the neighborhood, a supportive pair of shoes minimizes the chances of returning home sore. We think it’s a worthwhile investment any time of the year, but now’s a perfect time to look for a deal on a good pair of comfy walking shoes.
The Best Prime Day Walking Shoe Deals
The Expert: I’ve tested running and outdoor gear for years, both as an editor at Runner’s World and as a freelance reviewer for InsideHook, Men’s Journal, and other publications. I’ve written more about running shoes than any other category, and I have firsthand experience running and walking in models from a wide range of top brands, including Asics, New Balance, Nike, and more.
What to Consider
Just like with running shoes, your perfect walking shoe may vary, depending on your preferences—maybe you like lots of padding underfoot, for example, or you need support features in the midsole. Here are some things to keep in mind as you check out walking shoes this Prime Day.
What’s a Walking Shoe?
Walking shoes are designed to feel comfortable at slower paces, and they usually have at least a moderate amount of cushioning and a stable, predictable feel underfoot. For cushioning, most walking shoes use ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), the standard midsole foam used across the running shoe industry. While it’s not particularly lightweight, EVA offers good shock absorption and a comfortable ride.
You may find some walking shoes made with other foams, like polyether block amide (PEBA) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). These materials can change how your shoe feels and performs on a walk. PEBA, used in the Saucony Tempus, is exceptionally light and soft, which means the shoe can have a thick, well-cushioned midsole without feeling clunky. TPU, used in the Reebok Floatride Energy 5, is durable and responsive—it’s a great choice if you like a firmer feel in a shoe.
Many walking shoes also have dedicated stability features that support the medial side of the foot, keeping it aligned within the shoe and reducing overpronation. The Asics GT-1000 12, for example, has a layer of extra-firm LiteTruss foam in the midsole that supports the arch of your foot and keeps it from rolling too far inward during your stride. Seeking out a shoe with a wide sole shape will also help you get a stable, planted feel with each step.
Some of the shoes below have earned the American Podiatric Medical Association’s Seal of Acceptance, which means they’ve been independently tested and found to benefit foot health. While not strictly necessary for a walking shoe, it’s an added reassurance that the shoe will support healthy strides.
How Do I Know If It’s a Good Deal?
For quality walking shoes, I recommend sticking with a reputable shoe brand with a reputation for making high-performance running shoes—Asics, New Balance, and Saucony are all great choices with a strong presence on Amazon. There are also plenty of niche running brands, such as Altra and Brooks, that make great shoes for walking. Popular high-performance shoes from these brands generally retail for around $150 or more, so consider anything under that threshold a bargain. When prices drop to around $100 or less, that qualifies as an excellent deal.

The Asics GT-1000 has long been an incredible bargain, in addition to being a capable everyday running shoe. Though recently replaced by a newer model, we still recommend the GT-1000 12 as one of our favorite walking shoes.
It features an EVA-cushioned midsole, paired with a gel pod in the heel. It’s also equipped with LiteTruss, a layer of lightweight, firm foam on the medial side of the midsole that keeps your foot aligned in the shoe as you move through your stride.
I found the GT-1000 12 felt comfortable and surprisingly flexible, especially in the forefoot. With its moderately cushioned, supportive ride, it’s perfect for running errands or a nice, long wander.
Rykä designs shoes specifically for women’s feet, and the brand’s APMA-certified Devotion X earned a spot on our best walking shoes list thanks to its comfy, stable ride. It features a dual-compound midsole made of EVA and Rykä’s responsive Re-Zorb cushioning foam at the forefoot and heel, which absorb impacts well and generate some peppy energy return.
It’s also a supportive shoe: An anatomically shaped insole is designed to match the unique structure of female feet. It cradles the foot and supports the heel and arch for proper alignment in each step. A wide toe box leaves plenty of room for toes to splay, the narrow heel construction creates a snug fit, and large rubber outsole placements ensure high-mileage durability, so you’ll get plenty of use from this shoe.
Another of our top picks for walking, the Diadora Mythos Blushield Vigore 2 serves up a distinctly plush, stable, and responsive ride. Its elaston EVA footbed feels noticeably soft at landing but springs back for a bouncy feel at toe-off.
Underneath that, the thick midsole features Diadora’s “medial stabilizer” to support the arch of your foot and keep it cradled within the shoe as you walk. Up top, a breathable mesh upper creates a close wrap for a slip-free fit, and on the bottom, high-wear rubber generates strong grip and offers stellar durability.
Comfy and energetic, the Mythos Blushield Vigore 2 is an ideal for choice for long days on your feet.
The Saucony Tempus is proof that support shoes can be exciting. This APMA-certified model is constructed with Saucony’s Pwrrun PB foam—the same cushioning used in its high-end speed shoes.
The PEBA-based foam offers exceptionally soft, responsive cushioning with minimal weight, and it’s paired with a contoured EVA foam frame that matches the shape of the foot, creating a supportive and comfy fit. A gently rockered sole shape promotes smooth strides, whether you’re jogging or walking.

The Gel-Nimbus is one of Asics’ core “Legends” shoes, which have been around for decades. The Gel-Nimbus has consistently offered a well-cushioned experience that’s perfect for both running and walking.
Designed for neutral runners, The Gel-Nimbus 25’s beefy midsole is all about shock absorption: A layer of PureGEL cushioning in the heel dissipates impact forces, and it’s paired with a generous slab of soft, springy FlyteFoam Blast+ padding for a plush feel with each step.
Pay no mind to the fact that this is last year’s model: Cushioned and reliable, it’s a top suggestion in multiple Reddit threads for those looking for a walking shoe.
The Escalante is one of our favorite Altra running shoes. On Reddit, reviewers praise it as a capable pick for walking. What makes it so good for walkers? Altra’s unique design ethos: A notably wide forefoot gives your toes plenty of room to spread out, which increases stability and comfort, and the zero-drop footbed keeps your toes and heel at the same level within the shoe, which promotes your natural stride.
The shoe features a moderate amount of cushioning for a balanced ride—soft enough to dissipate impact forces, but firm enough to feel lively and responsive. Wherever you’re walking, the Escalante will keep your feet happy.
The Floatride Energy 5 is our favorite shoe in Reebok’s small but mighty running shoe lineup, and we also named it one of the best cushioned shoes of the year. With a TPU midsole that offers great energy return and resists packing down over time, it’s a versatile trainer that’s well suited to long walks.

Love a high-stack, well-cushioned shoe? The New Balance Fresh Foam More takes a maximalist approach to cushioning. With a hefty wedge of New Balance’s Fresh Foam EVA padding, it offers an incredibly soft ride that’s ideal for slower paces.
Praise abounds for these shoes online, including one Reddit reviewer who called them “a cloud on your feet.” For maximum plushness, don’t settle for anything less than More.
One of our favorite stability shoes, the Asics Gel-Kayano is a classic. This highly cushioned trainer has a thick stack of padding and an injection of PureGEL in the heel for an extra-soft landing on each step. That takes the edge out of standing on your feet all day.
The Gel-Kayano 30 comes in wide sizes and there's a good selection on Amazon for Prime Day, so if you wear wide (2E) shoes, this is the move.
The APMA-certified Ghost is a beloved and longstanding model in the Brooks lineup, and the attributes that make it our favorite Brooks shoe—versatility, moderate cushioning, and an accommodating fit—also make it a great pick for walking.
The Ghost 15 midsole is made from DNA Loft v2 foam, a rubber-EVA blend that feels soft and resists packing out, so it’ll maintain its shock absorbing qualities for longer. One RW tester praised its “excellent ride with firm yet spongy cushioning.”
The shoe’s wide sole shape offers plenty of room for toes to splay, and it won’t constrict your feet as they swell during long days of standing or walking. Although its steep 12mm heel-toe drop might not work for everyone, it’s an approachable, well-made shoe that’s great for walking and running alike.
