Ultrarunner Rory Bosio, 32, has dominated races all over the world, including back-to-back wins at the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc, once finishing in the top 10 overall. She is even better known for her light and humorous attitude while conquering her long-distance feats.

Bosio’s latest adventure took her to Corsica, an island off the coast of France, where she aimed to tackle the rugged GR20 trail while The North Face captured every moment in their film, Running On Empty. The 118-mile route traverses the island with more than 43,000 feet of vertical ascent over steep and rocky terrain. Just to give you a sense for how hard this really is, hikers often take two weeks to complete the trail.

Through the trials and tribulations that she encountered, the pediatric ICU nurse from Truckee, California, struggled and triumphed over her journey. Now with this 14-minute video, The North Face (one of her sponsors) captures the emotions, the struggles, and the glory.

“I don’t think your experience of something should be either diminished or enhanced based on how you perform compared to other people,” Bosio says in the film. “I don’t care what other woman has run this before, or how she did. That won’t affect my experience.”
