Katelyn Tuohy really might be unstoppable.
After setting national records in three distances—the outdoor mile, the 3,200 meters, and the 5,000 meters—and winning four national titles, the high school running star has now been named the Gatorade Female Athlete of the Year.
The overall award, which launched in 2003, recognizes the nation’s top male and female high school athletes among the 12 sport-specific winners. The 16-year-old from Thiells, New York, is also the first person to be named top athlete in two different sports—track and field and cross country.
In winning the Gatorade Athlete of the Year award, Tuohy joins a group of mega-stars that include Allyson Felix, Lebron James and Dwight Howard. At the ceremony, American soccer legend Abby Wambach presented the award to her.
It’s just one more feather in the cap of Tuohy, who can’t seem to run slow, just one time. Seriously, read more about the details of her accomplishments. They’re amazing.
And there’s more: You can find Tuohy on the cover of the July 30, 2018 edition of Sports Illustrated, which she shares with the Gatorade award’s male recipient, California football player JT Daniels.
