Less than a year after going through chemotherapy treatment for bowel cancer, Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts set a Guinness World Record at the London Marathon. Roberts, 44, ran the fastest marathon with a colostomy bag in 3:30:22.
Roberts started using a stoma bag in 2021 after surgery for bowel cancer, according to The Guardian. After her race she said, “Up yours, cancer.”
In an Instagram post, she wrote, “For those warriors living with cancer, for all the incredible ostomates around the UK and for the heroes of the NHS. That was for you.”
In an Instagram story, Roberts showed a tiny race medal for her stoma bag, whose name is Audrey. Audrey also had a race bag and a bib number.
Roberts told BBC Radio 4 Women’s Hour, “Less than 18 months ago I was lying in a hospital bed recovering from bowel cancer surgery and it was a long road ahead of me … 18 months ago, and I couldn’t barely sit up, let alone run a marathon.”
