Yuki Kawauchi, who won the 2018 Boston Marathon and hearts all over the world, might be one of the most consistent elite marathoners the world has seen. He holds the Guinness World Record for the most marathons completed under 2:20—an astounding 104 times (since that record was ratified, he ran 2:13:18 last weekend in London, which would make this 105 times).
Kawauchi, 36, won the 2018 Boston Marathon in 2:15:54, but his fastest time is 2:07:27 from the Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon. He finished third in the 2011 Tokyo Marathon with a time of 2:08:37.
Last weekend the Japanese marathoner ran 2:13:18 at the London Marathon from the mass start, instead of the elite start. Kawauchi tweeted that there had been a communication breakdown and he was unable to start with the professional runners.
Despite this, he finished 11th overall in terms of time, and first in the mass start. Kawauchi also earned his World Marathon Majors Six Star Finisher Medal in London.
Seriously, what can’t Yuki do?
