Emmy-award winning actress, Sarah Snook, turned to the treadmill to help her prepare for her Broadway show, The Picture of Dorian Gray, in which she plays 26 characters.
The performance, which includes a perfectly timed dance routine, requires Snook to speak for two hours with only three moments for a sip of water, according to The New Yorker.
Snook, who played Shiv Roy in the hit show ‘Succession,’ told The New Yorker that part of her regimen was doing her lines “at pace” on a treadmill.
Sound familiar? Snook said when she heard that Taylor Swift trained for her record-breaking Eras Tour, she sang every song of the set list—3 hours and 15 minutes—while running. She told Time that she ran “fast for fast songs, and a jog or a fast walk for slow songs.”
For fun, we tried to guess how many miles the Grammy-winning singer covered during those workouts (about 16 miles).
“I heard that and thought, ‘That’s a genius idea. I’m gonna do that,’” Snook told The New Yorker.
She also ditched alcohol and caffeine, and prioritized sleep, which with an infant, is pretty impressive in and of itself. Snook played the part in London at the West End’s Haymarket Theatre, which won an Olivier Award. The Broadway show starts this month through June.
It turns out, Swift’s workout routine is actually a great way to ensure you running at a good pace. “If you are running at the right intensity, you should be able to sing without pausing for breath,” Alethia Mongerie, a Level 2 RRCA-certified coach, told Runner’s World earlier this year. Singing is perhaps an even better way to determine proper running intensity than the “talk test” because of how the “lyrics and the melody need to come out smoothly and without gulps of air.”
Hopefully Snook made sure to stay focused on the treadmill so she didn’t “fall.”
