I have been running for 45 years. I think running gave me a life, as it is something that I can do wherever I am. I’ve run at the levee camp along the Atchafalaya River, all of New Orleans, Grand Isle, the Florida beaches, through various parks, etc.
It wasn’t until the last seven years that I realized the physical and mental health benefits gained by consistently running. Looking back, I think running was a big stress reliever. I’ve raised three boys, started and operated a small construction company, and I’ve been married for 41 years. Along with my spiritual life, I think running helps balance me.
Now, I am motivated to run the Boston Marathon in 2021. I qualified to run Boston in December of 2019 at Kiawah Island, SC. With COVID-19, things are uncertain. I made the qualifying time by 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Historically, I would have been accepted. I am waiting to hear from the Boston Marathon Association.
I am a morning runner—run rise. My favorite run is through Nicholls State University in my hometown of Thibodaux. There is a section where I like to catch the horizon about five or ten minutes before the sun comes up—it is spectacular!
I’ve hunted and fished most of my adult life. Some folks retire so they can fish and hunt more. I would rather be running or training for an upcoming event—kind of weird, huh.
My running goal is to run until my last day on Earth—hopefully mid ninetyish. Also, I took some Chi Running classes. I would like to become an instructor. I believe proper form and a strong core is the key to longevity in running.
Caroline’s enthusiasm for enriching the run community originates from engaging with her local run specialty store customers, where she still works part-time. As a professional hobby jogger, she loves exchanging training stories and hearing from RW+ members about their race victories.
