Best for: all rounders
Power Gym Leggings
If you're a runner who is looking for a pair of leggings that work for the odd spin class or strength session as well as running, these Power Leggings are a good choice. They're buttery soft against the skin, they've got leg pockets for your phone and gels, and there's a zipped pocket on the back for your keys. More petite runners will love the 7/8 leg length, and they're available in a number of different patterns and colourways to suit every runner.

Best for: the ultimate running comfort
Zero Gravity High-Waisted Running Leggings
These running leggings are designed to keep you comfy mile after mile. Compared to the Power leggings, they've got a more compressive fit, for zero distractions or movement on the run. They've still got side pockets for your iPhone and running gels and a zipped pocket on the back for your keys, but they've also got a higher waistband to keep everything tucked in as you move. Unlike the Power Leggings, these are only 80% squat proof, so you might not be able to wear them for your workout class. They are available in a full length and a 7/8 leg length for shorter runners.

Best for: those looking for a high waistband
Power High-Waisted 7/8 Gym Leggings
These are the same Sweaty Betty Power Leggings, but with an even higher waistband to keep everything tucked in as you move. The waistband isn't elasticated, but we found it stayed in place well when running. These are also available in a 7/8 and a full leg length.

Best for: running in low light
Power Reflective Gym Leggings
It doesn't get more reflective than this. These are the same Power leggings, but with an all-over reflective print to keep you seen when running in low light. Despite the reflective fabric, the leggings are still soft against the skin and wash well. There's also a matching jacket and headband.

Best for: winter running
Thermodynamic 7/8 Running Leggings
If you're doing some seriously chilly winter running, these thermodynamic leggings from Sweaty Betty are a great choice. The fleecy lining is wonderfully soft and comfortable against the skin, the high rise is super comfortable and the velvet trim looks great. The only downside? In the UK, it's probably only cold enough to wear them for about two weeks of the year.

Best for: those who prefer a looser fit
Recycled Plastic On Your Marks 4” Running Shorts
If you're absolutely not a runner who likes a cycling-short style fit, these running shorts will tick all the right boxes. The shorts have a tighter inner, designed to minimise any uncomfortable chafing on the run and a looser out-short for extra coverage. There are also two zipped side pockets for all your essentials and a mid-rise elasticated waistband.

Power 9" Cycling Shorts
Cycling-style running shorts have gotten more and more popular over the past few years and it's easy to see why – like your favourite leggings, they've got side pockets for your phone and minimise any chafing as your thighs knock together. In classic Sweaty Betty style, these nine-inch shorts are available in a number of different prints and colours. They also come in a six-inch leg length for shorter runners.

Best for: all-day comfort
All Day 10" Cycling Shorts
If you're looking for a pair of shorts you can run in, but also wear to yoga or to a HIIT class, these are perfect. With a wonderfully high waist band, they'll leave you feeling supported, whatever you're up to. The major downside here is the lack of leg pockets, but if you've got a running belt, you'll be fine. We've run a half marathon in an older version of these shorts and had no issue. For the price, you can't go wrong.
