There’s a lot to consider when buying a sports bra: the level of support, fabric, comfort and coverage. However, there's one thing you probably haven’t thought of: pockets. But you should. The perfectly placed pocket answers an age-old running question: where do I stow my stuff?

While running belts, arm bands and hydration packs all have their place and purpose, we — as runners — are nothing if not particular about our gear. Some swear armbands throw them off balance, while others hate the idea of a bag bouncing on their back or waist. And even if you sometimes wear a pack or belt, you might still want a super-accessible pocket for emergency essentials like tissues, gels, and lip balm, or something fuss-free for shorter runs.

That’s where sports bras with pockets come in handy. You’ll find bras with sectioned-off pockets that keep you organised and larger pockets that feel limitless — and if the thought of any added chest-bounce sounds awful to you, opt for a pocket in the back instead.

One thing to note, however, is that a lot of the best pocket sports bras out there tend to offer medium-impact support. Yes, larger-busted runners, we hear you — 'but what about us?' While we have searched high and low for high-impact sports bras with pockets, the options have proved somewhat limited. And we don't want to recommend anything that won't truly provide the support you need.

Adidas Run Pocket Medium-Support Bra

Adidas Run Pocket Medium-Support Bra

This long-line sports bra from Adidas is one of our favourites for staying cool while running. Why? Not only is the material moisture-wicking, it comes with these handy storage straps on the back – which means you can whip off your running top and thread it through the back (without having to wrap anything around your waist).

The storage doesn't stop there, though: there are also several handy pockets, big enough to fit your phone, keys and fuel. The perfect marathon racing bra, if you ask us.

Fabletics On-the-Go Bra

Fabletics On-the-Go Bra

Wonderfully soft against the skin, this bra has comfort down to a tee, making it a good pick for running, cross training, or even just going about your day. The racerback style encourages a full range of upper body motion, while the compressive material and secure band keeps everything in place without feeling at all restrictive.

The internal pocket on the back panel is the right size for your average phone (albeit a bit too narrow for max-sized phones), gels, or other small necessities, keeping them safe but out of the way as you move. Offered in ten sizes and four colourways – including a statement-making green and pink leopard print design – you’re bound to find the right fit and look with this bra.

New Balance Sleek Medium Support Pocket Sports Bra

New Balance Sleek Medium Support Pocket Sports Bra

Available in a small selection of sophisticated colourways – including ‘liquorice’ and ‘dark olivine’ – this medium support bra keeps you and your small essential items in place on the run. The removable cups help to enhance coverage and support, while the stretchy, fast-drying NB DRYx fabric comfortably hugs your frame without holding onto too much sweat.

You can slot your phone (or cards, or keys, or gels) into the nifty back panel pocket, too, which is made from a breathable mesh material. This is a small touch that results in a big win, because it means that your phone won’t develop the same sweaty layer that can appear on the screen when it’s cooped up in other pockets mid-run (we all know it).

Fabletics Trinity High Impact Sports Bra

Editor’s Choice
Fabletics Trinity High Impact Sports Bra

First off, we'll address the fact that this Fabletics bra claims to offer ‘high impact’ support. Our DD-cup tester put it to the test on the run and during gym-based strength sessions (involving box jumps and pogo jumps), and concluded that, for a compression bra, the support is pretty decent. However, we’d be lying if we said it felt totally bounce-free. If you’ve got DD-cups or bigger, an encapsulation bra is still going to offer more support than this.

That aside, every other aspect of this bra impressed us. The fabric is moisture-wicking and breathable, the longer-line design is super flattering (our tester felt comfortable enough wearing this in the gym without a top), and there’s three different pockets. These are big enough to accommodate an iPhone 15 Pro, too.

Under Armour HeatGear® Armour High Pocket Sports Bra

Editor’s Choice
Under Armour HeatGear® Armour High Pocket Sports Bra

Under Armour produce some of our favourite sports bras of all time, and this High Pocket Sports Bra is no exception. It's made from the brand's HeatGear technology, which is supremely sweat-wicking and breathable. The adjustable straps are a neat feature, too, providing additional support and a really 'strapped in' fit.

Pockets wise, a large mesh back pocket can accommodate up to an iPhone 14 Pro, and there's an additional side body pocket for a couple of gels.

The fit is on the snug size, but it's needed for high-impact exercise like running. Overall, it's supportive enough to accommodate up to a D-cup, but anyone with larger breasts should look elsewhere for running.

Tracksmith Allston Bra

Editor’s Choice
Tracksmith Allston Bra

Ticking multiple boxes is this slick offering: a beautifully soft, medium-support bra that, in true Tracksmith fashion, looks timelessly smart.

Built from two layers of the brand’s super smooth Inverno Blend fabric, this bra wicks away moisture quickly and doesn’t have the unpleasant sweat-retaining quality of many other sports bras we encounter. (The fast-drying material also means you can wear it again almost straight after a wash – because trust us, you’ll want to.)

The best bit, though, is the spacious internal pocket across the front, which is large enough to securely lock in your phone, gels, credit card, or anything else you’ll need on the move, without compromising comfort.
