British astronaut Tim Peake invites you to run with him as he trains for the Digital Virgin Money London Marathon on-board the International Space Station (ISS).
What everyone's reading
Peake will become the first man to run a marathon in space as he prepares to take on the 26.2-mile virtual reality treadmill challenge on Sunday 24th April.
The Digital Virgin Money London Marathon enables runners to participate in the VMLM course no matter where they are. You can join Peake on his training runs by downloading the app for free from RunSocial.
Using HD video footage of the 2013 and 2014 marathons, the app gives a 'mixed reality' video for runners to watch while on a treadmill. The video matches the runner's speed, as well as showing avatars representing fellow runners who are also using the download.
Peake will start at the same time as the 37,000+ marathoners set off from Greenwich, but he will be wearing a harness that tethers him to the treadmill as he sees and runs through an HD video of the iconic London course using RunSocial.
‘It can be lonely pounding out the miles on the treadmill in the ISS,’ said Peake. ‘It would be fantastic to run with other people and see their avatars on my screen as I do my training.’
The first opportunity to train with Peake will be at 10:00 GMT on Sunday 13th March. Visit www.runsocial.com or download RunSocial from the App store for details.
