Ruth Jebet won Bahrain their first gold medal when she ran a new Asian record in the 3000m steeplechase. Ruth narrowly missed out on setting a new women’s world record by less than a second, but became the second woman ever to finish the race under 9 minutes with her time of 8:59:75.

Hyvin Kiyeng Jepkemoi won Kenya another silver medal with a 9:07:12 finish, and Emma Coburn secured another bronze for the USA in 9:07:63.

Men’s 800m

Kenya’s David Rudisha retained his 800m title, winning in 1:42:15, which also marked the fastest time since he set a record at the London 2012 Olympics (1:40:91). He established an early lead in front of Algeria’s Taflouki Makhiufi, who won silver with1:42:61. Clayton Murphy of the USA took bronze in 1:42:93 in a surprise overtake just metres from the finish line.

Team GB’s Michael Rimmer was unfortunately eliminated during the semifinals.

Women’s 400m

Shaunae Miller won the Bahamas their first medal as she dove across the finish line for gold, finishing in 49:44. The United States’ Allyson Felix came in at 49:51 for silver, and Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson took the bronze in 49:85. Team GB’s Christine Ohuruogu and Emily Diamond were unfortunately eliminated at the semifinals.
