Photos of a selfless runner, who turned back to help a fellow competitor, who was sitting on the ground exhausted, just meters from the finish line, have gone viral this week. The runners were taking place in the CAT 10K Thailand Championship, around the Supachalasai Stadium in the capital’s Pathum Wan District on Sunday, where there were highs of 32 degrees celsius.

One athlete seemed to have collapsed, exhausted, just meters from the finish line. As his fellow competitors sprinted past him, one stopped and turned back, sacrificing his own race time (which was sub-39 minutes), to help the runner across the line.

The runner who stopped can be seen picking the collapsed runner up and trying to get him back on his feet, however his legs continued to buckle. Race marshals and other athletes then helped the exhausted runner across the line, where he was given medical attention.
