Police are appealing for witnesses after a female runner was attacked and when running along a canal path in Derbyshire on Sunday. It was around 4pm when the runner noticed a man with a dog walking behind her on the canal path, near to the Gallows Inn playing field, off Nottingham Road, IIkeston.
It has now been revealed that, despite early reports saying the attack was sexual, detectives have now said they are, "happy no sex offence was committed".
The man let his dog off the lead and it ran towards the runner, jumping up and pushing her over from behind. The owner of the dog assaulted the runner and ran off when the dog started to bark. Derbyshire Police believe the man headed towards the Larklands area.
