Scotland’s Jemma Reekie set a new British indoor 800m record on Saturday 1 February at an invitation event at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena. 21-year-old Reekie set a time of one minute 57.91 seconds, beating Jenny Meadow’s 2010 time of 1:58.43.

Reekie beat her training partner and four-time European Indoor Champion, Laura Muir, who went on to finish second, with a time of 1:58.44.

Reekie was quick to celebrate her friendship with Muir and thank her for her support, writing on her Instagram account, “We work so hard for moments like this. It makes it even more special to have the friendship me and @lmuiruns have, through thick and thin we work so so hard together. Also having the likes of @adelletracey .It really means the world to me, I love this sport. I’m still in shock, thanks for all the lovely messages. My coach Andy I couldn’t do it without you! I’m forever grateful🥰”
