It was an emotional competition for British pole vaulter Holly Bradshaw, who dedicated her British Championships gold medal to her grandfather, who died the evening before the competition at the Manchester Regional Arena on Saturday 5 September.
Bradshaw jumped her eighth national outdoor title with a stadium record height of 4.35 metres. She went on to say, ‘I’ve had a really rough 24 hours.
‘My grandad passed away yesterday and he was one of my biggest fans and he’s been at every single British champs since I started the sport so I really felt like it was appropriate to come and try my best and I struggled a little bit in warmup and felt a little bit flat.

‘I didn’t get much sleep last night trying to rally the family together but it was important to them that I come. I’m glad I came and got the British Champion - he would be really really happy.’
Sophie Cook came second with 4.25m and Sophie Ashurst came third with a jump of 3.70m.
