Rose Harvey and Charlotte Purdue test positive for Covid-19

GB marathon runners Rose Harvey and Charlotte Purdue have tested positive for Covid-19.

Despite negative tests prior to the World Championship marathon race, that saw both runners DNF, the positive tests helps explain why both runners struggled so much during the event.

Purdue dropped out at around 19km, later posting on Instagram that she hadn't felt herself: 'From the moment the race started I didn’t feel like myself, my legs felt heavy and my breathing was off, I knew something wasn’t right.'

Harvey also came to a halt at 25km, after suffering with cramps in her quads.

Posting on instagram (screenshots below via Twitter), both runners explain with a sense of relief that testing positive for Coronavirus helps them understand why their races didn't go to plan, especially with both having successful training blocks prior to the event.

Ethiopia's Gotytom Gebreslase won the women's marathon in a new championship record of 2:18:11, with Jess Piasecki the first over the line for Great Britain.
