‘If it’s not on Strava, it didn’t happen’... Since 2019, Strava – a fitness app that calls itself the social network for athletes – has become one of the most popular running apps. It’s revolutionised the way in which runners connect with each other, compete and conquer their goals.
And while most runners will be aware that Strava lets you record your runs (and then measure your performance afterwards), share your races and workouts with your friends and followers and give kudos to great performances, there’s a whole host of additional features – or ‘subscriber perks’ – you might not be aware of.
Premium users paying £8.99 a month can take advantage of these perks which, according to Strava, ensure ‘your subscription pays for itself’. While some are predominantly aimed at cyclists, runners paying for the subscription service can still benefit from the offers provided by the insurance provider, sundays.
What everyone's reading
1. Device damage
If your Strava-compatible fitness device is damaged as a result of an accident while tracking your cycling activity, they will give you up to £350 to repair or replace it.
Coverage is provided for GPS devices, smartphones, and tablets used for tracking and logging your activities on the Strava platform, as long as at the time of the claim the device was purchased less than 24 months prior.
2. Taxi fare
There’s nothing worse than cutting your ride short as a result of a puncture. Well, to soften the blow, Strava will reimburse you up to £30 for taxi fare if you’re left stranded due to a bicycle accident or mechanical failure.
3. Running race entry
Missing a running race due to an illness or injury is frustrating, but at least your entry fee won’t go to waste. Strava will now pay up to £75 to cover these costs.
4. 20% off Peppermint cycle clothing
Fancy updating your cycling wardrobe? Strava subscribers can get 20% off cycling clothing for women at Peppermint Cycling Co – which aims to fill a gap in the cycling market by offering unique and technical products designed by women for women.
5. Free access to select strength and prehab videos
Strava subscribers can take advantage of core training workouts specifically designed for runners by renowned coach Greg McMillan.
6. Plan your next adventure
Routes on Strava offers subscribers personalised route suggestions in the app, so whether you’re looking for trails in your area to hike, run, walk or mountain bike on, or you’re looking to explore somewhere unfamiliar, Strava offers route suggestions (long or short, paved or dirt, hilly or flat) designed around your needs and based on where other athletes actually go.
