You may be familiar with this old running adage: ‘If it’s not on Strava, it didn’t happen’.
While this isn’t strictly true for your runs, rides or other sporting adventures, Strava is keen to get more people moving and proving that the work has been done. As such, it has just launched its brand-new Family Plan – a shared subscription designed to encourage more people to track their activities on the digital platform, and to reap the kudos for making it happen.
The inclusive Family Plan enables athletes to share their Strava subscription with up to three other people, so long as they live in the same country and are not current subscribers of the platform. As a result, every member of a Family Plan subscription can use and explore a full range of Strava features including collaborative goal setting – where you can set weekly targets, track progress and keep each other accountable – and workout insights, where you can feast upon a wealth of easy-to-digest data from your activities. Family Plan subscribers can also gain unlimited access to group challenges and route mapping tools, which help you to plan your runs and group adventures with ease.
What everyone's reading
The Family Plan starts at £99.99 per year in the UK, which makes it an affordable choice for small, activity-focused communities looking to improve their running game. In fact, when shared among four people, the Family Plan is around half the price of four individual Strava subscriptions.
If you live outside of the UK, fear not – you can still access the Family Plan in 31 other countries around the world. You can check out the cost of a subscription in your area here.
With more than 125 million athletes registered on the platform worldwide, Strava is the leading digital community for active people – particularly runners and cyclists.
Recent research conducted by Strava and published in its 2024 Year in Sport: The Trend Report has shown that more than half of Strava athletes feel more motivated to work out when joined by friends, family members and training partners, and that 77% of Strava athletes feel more connected when they see people they’re close to post activities on Strava. This is especially true for Gen Z athletes.
By enabling athletes to train, compete and explore routes and activities together – both in real life and via the digital platform – Strava hopes that the Family Plan will leverage this craving for community and keep inspiration at a high.
‘The magic of Strava lies in the motivation that’s found in our global community,’ says Zipporah Allen, Chief Business Officer at Strava. ‘Our belief is that people keep people active, and the new Family Plan makes it even easier to make a fitness commitment together. It’s about more than just setting shared goals – it’s about embracing shared passions and celebrating collective progress.’
Strava’s Family Plan is a sibling of its pre-existing Student Plan, which gives students access to Strava features at half the price of a full individual subscription. Strava first announced the new Family Plan at its annual event, Camp Strava, in May this year.
