Hi, Team.

In this episode of The Amazing Runner’s World Show, Jeff talks with RW associate health & fitness editor Monique LeBrun about kettlebell workouts, and how they’re a great way for runners to get started with strength training. Then, we answer a question from RW+ member “Bob from PA”: His marathon training plan is time-based, but that won’t get him a 20-mile long run. Should he keep running for time or do a 20-miler instead? (Note: 20 miles is not a magic number.) And, finally, we take a dive into the new training load feature for the Apple Watch, and talk about why training load is an important metric. It’s currently available on the public beta version of watchOS11 and can be used on Apple Watch Ultra (1 and 2), Apple Watch Series 9, 8, 7 and 6, and SE (2nd generation). In the previous episode of The Amazing Runner’s World Show, Jeff talked with RW senior video producer Pat Heine who raced this year’s Western States Endurance Run 100-miler. We heard how he went into the race and whether he hit his A, B, or C goals. Then Pat shared some useful advice he learned on the course that you can apply to your own runs, like focusing on heat management rather than heat acclimation—find a way to stay cool. Lastly, Pat told us he trashed his shoes—literally—before flying home. We learned why he chose a pair from The North Face over the newest Hoka, but also how he customized the shoes for the best performance over 100 miles. RW+ members can watch the full episode now.
